Sombra's Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Ambushes from various angles while in stealth.

    Because Sombra can approach enemies while in stealth, as long as she survives she can maintain an advantage as if she were always holding a wide area.

  • Disrupting enemy ultimates via hacking.

    By hacking, she can stop various ultimates midway, such as Sigma's ultimate, Moira's ultimate, or Ashe's B.O.B.B.O.B. Sombra can also see how charged the enemy's ultimates are, making it easy to stop powerful enemy ultimates.

  • Cleansing via stealth.

    When Sombra enters stealth, she can remove any debuff. This lets her cancel effects like anti-heal or burn.

How to Counter

  • Use heroes with turrets.

    When there's an enemy turret, Sombra has to either destroy the turret or attack the enemy directly without destroying it. If she destroys the turret, she has to accept the risk of her stealth being broken once, and if she attacks the enemy without destroying it, she ends up facing the enemy while taking turret fire, so either way she's at a disadvantage. Also, Sombra's damage output isn't that high, so it often takes time to destroy a turret.

  • Use heroes that can remove hack's effect.

    Zarya's barrier, Kiriko's Swift StepSwift Step and Protection SuzuProtection Suzu, and Moira's FadeFade can cancel hack's effect. Also, Reinhardt and Brigitte can cancel the hack by deploying a barrier mid-hack while looking toward Sombra.

  • Use heroes with spread shots.

    D.Va, Reaper, and Tracer have spread-shot primary fire, so shooting where Sombra is likely hiding can sometimes reveal her while she's in stealth.
